Interestingly, some people actually living in Stuttgart do not know that Baden-Wurttemberg's capital city, together with its airport, its extensive road network and its major rail terminal, also has its own port facility - a joint-venture company of the city of Stuttgart having the legal status of a limited company - www.stuttgart.de

The Port of Stuttgart was built in two stages - from 1954 -1958 and from 1966 - 1968. The 100-hectare port area is home to over 50 companies, providing shipping, transportation, warehousing and commerce and employing over 3,000 staff.

Thanks to its port, Stuttgart is linked through the European waterways and rail networks with the most important economic centres and major seaports in Europe. Inland navigation vessels operating on the Rhine and Neckar are able to reach the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp in only 52 hours.
